Abe Sapien, Lobster Johnson and Roger

I love Hellboy, Mike Mignola is one of my favorite artists. This pic started as a little sketch on a post it sized piece of paper. Just for fun and practice.

Cheers

And the post it sketch I started with.

Lobster Johnson is a Nazi fighting specter who brands his enemies with a claw mark burnt into their foreheads. My thinking was that his ghostly body was containing his burning essence. I had so much fun painting Abe I thought I would have a crack at another Hellboy character. I would love to see this charater in Hellboy 3 I really hope they make that movie one day soon

Roger the homunculus. Here's another character from the Hellboy and BPRD universe. Had a lot of fun on this guy and tried to stay true to the spirit of Mike Mignola's great design.

Ronin

Ronin tearing it up! This is my third piece of fan art for Danny LuVisi's Last Man standing. I was really honoured when Dan decided to include both of my first two pieces into the reprint of the book. I really wanted to push myself on this piece. Lots of late nights and coffee on this one. I had heaps of fun on this and a big thanks to my brother Hamish for all your cool ideas and critiques. This will be my last LMS Fan art (for now) so much fun, hope you like it Danny.

Gabriel

This is my second piece of fan art for Danny Luvisi LMS. I had so much fun doing the first one I wanted to do another for fun/practice. This time of the main character Gabriel. I thought of this as a companion piece to the Dante pic, like two shots taken from the same scene. There has been so much awesome art going round of Gabe that I almost didn't finsh this, I'm glad I did though.

Dante LMS

I've been wanting to do some fanart for Danny LuVisi's Last Man Standing for a while and seeing all the cool fan art going around i decided to do one. Done over two nights after work, it was lots of fun. If you haven't seen Dan's work before you definatly need to check it out it's epic, hyper realistic and fun.

Alien

This was an oldish sketch that I finished up a bit. I was watching Anthony Jones' Lighting Video and tried to use his technique.

Concerning Dragons

Hi everyone, I just finished up the last couple of pieces for my submission for Imagine FX's Rising stars contest. I had such a hard time choosing a category to enter, I was torn between Illustration and Comics, I ended up going the illustration.

I've been working heaps of late nights and most of the weekends to get my portfolio ready to send off over the last couple of weeks. So with these last two pics I thought I had a week each for each to finish (which is tight when you only have after work). Turns out I only had one week to do two portfolio pieces, ahhh. Anyway here they are I'm pretty pleased with how much I was able to get done.

Smaug, inside information

I can't wait for the Hobbit to come out, its such an awesome book and Peter Jackson and Weta did such an amazing job on LOTR. I think this is maybe the second time I've tried to paint a dragon. I tried to capture the feeling I had when reading this. I think the hardest part was trying to get across that Smaug is an intellegent and cunning dragon, rather than just a beast. Don't know if I quite pulled it of but I really enjoyed painting this.

Forwardguard

I was pretty happy with how this one turned out.

Ironclad

This is my most recent portfolio piece, It started out as random sketch that I ended up liking and taking to a finish. I was going for a Magic the Gathering vibe for this one. I had lots of fun working on it, I was thinking of him as a Temple guard who you don't want to mess with.

Cheers

Marvel pitch

I did this a few months ago at work. It's the cover for a pitch package for a marvel themed game. I really enjoyed getting the chance do work on marvel characters during work hours. I've always loved comics and have wanted to work in comics since I was a kid, this is the closest I got so far so I was stoaked.

Here it is with the logo. Done by Jared MacPherson http://www.jaredmacpherson-illustration.com/

And some detail shots.

Portrait

For this piece I wanted to experiment and try something different and do something that was a bit more textured and chunky. It was a bit of fun and practice

Jugde Dredd

I used to love this comic. I remember getting one for my birthday from a friend when I was around 10. It was so cool and violent. I even liked the bad movie, untill I watched it again recently.

I saw the trailer for the new movie the other day, I'm not sure about it yet. I do like Carl Urban though. So I'll have to wait and see it might be alright.

Done over 3 or 4 nights after work.

Creature from the black lagoon

Hi everyone, this started as a quick sketch but I liked how it was going so I put a bit more time into it. Done over three nights after work, just for fun.

Here's the initial sketch.
